CEREC One Day Crowns in Massapequa Park

May 25, 2015

100047604We know you may not want to hear that you have a tooth that needs a crown, but sometimes that’s the only way to preserve a tooth and, in turn, your smile. The good news is that crowns—along with inlays and onlays—do not necessarily require two trips to the dentist’s office the way they always did. Nowadays, you can have a new crown and a restored smile in just one appointment. With CEREC One Day Crowns from South Shore Dental Care, Dr. Dory Stutman and Dr. Khalida Stutman rebuild teeth for patients from Massapequa Park, NY, and the surrounding areas.

Thanks to the CEREC in-office dental CAD/CAM equipment by Sirona, one hour crowns are not a dream, but a reality. The CEREC system includes:

  • A digital camera infrared that allows us to obtain a visual impression of your damaged tooth
  • 3-D CAD software for designing the restoration
  • A milling unit that uses high-speed burs to manufacture the restoration

High Time for High Tech CEREC Same Day Crowns

Once one of our dentists has completed your exam and determined that a CEREC One Day Crown is the best option for treating your damaged tooth, then you are on your way to having your tooth restored quickly and conveniently. First, we’ll make sure you’re completely comfortable before we begin your procedure. South Shore Dental Care offers sedation dentistry. So, if you need some help relaxing in the dentist’s chair, we can provide either oral conscious sedation or IV sedation. Then, the area surrounding the affected tooth is anesthetized.

Using a special digital camera, we take a photo of your tooth that is entered into the CEREC computer system. This system in turn creates a virtual model of your tooth in order to accurately design your crown, inlay or onlay. In just one step, we can identify the appropriate color, shape and biting surface for your restoration.

The design is then sent to the CEREC milling unit in our office, which fabricates the same day crown in about 20 minutes. When the milling process is completed, the restoration can be polished for a perfect match to your natural teeth. Finally, the restoration is fired in an oven, much like pottery. Dr. Stutman or Dr. Stutman will then place the tooth, check for a perfect fit and then cement your new crown into place.

How Do CEREC One- Hour Crowns Work?

  • First, Dr. Stutman will give you a full dental examination to determine that a CEREC restoration is most appropriate for your treatment. If it is, Dr. Stutman will prepare the affected tooth for restoration. Any decay or infected tissue will then be removed.
  • Next, Dr. Stutman will take digital impressions of your prepared tooth. These digital images are then sent to the CEREC computers for processing. This will only take a few minutes.
  • Next, the CEREC computer will convert your dental impressions into a 3-D virtual model. Dr. Stutman will use this information to design your crown. After a few more minutes, the design is finalized and sent to an in- office milling unit to be fabricated.
  • The CEREC milling unit will create your dental crown based on the final design. The crown is crafted from a ceramic block that perfectly matches the shade of your teeth. This step takes no more than twenty minutes to complete.
  • Finally, Dr. Stutman will place and adjust your new crown for proper fitting, and make any revisions if necessary. If the crown fits properly, it is bonded over the tooth, and thoroughly polished.

Have A Healthier Smile with Gum Disease Therapy

August 22, 2014

472315273Though many people pay a lot of attention to their teeth, making sure that they are bright and straight, they may forget about the most important aspect of having a healthy smile. Your gums are essential to a healthy smile, and if they are compromised in any way, the results are never positive. Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, affects approximately 80 percent of Americans, and many of them do not even know. Fortunately, our doctors are able to treat your gum disease with gum disease therapy at their Massapequa Park, NY dental office.

If left to its own devices, gum disease has the potential to cause many negative oral and bodily ailments, such as heart disease, stroke, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, tooth loss, bone loss, and much more. It is very important to make sure you tackle your gum disease in the early stages, as it is able to be reversed. A few signs of gum disease include red and swollen gums, gums that are sensitive to the touch, and gums that bleed when you brush or floss.

One of the ways we are able to treat your gum disease is by scaling and root planing. This allows for us to remove the harmful bacterium from below the gum line, making sure your smile is restored to a healthy state. This also lets us smooth out the rough areas on your tooth’s root. We will also be able to give you instructions and advice that you can put into practice at home, ensuring your gums are as healthy as possible. Have A Fuller Smile with Dental Implants

August 8, 2014

480753457One thing that many people strive for is a beautiful, full smile. Though it may not be important to some, there are those who spend a lot of time and effort into making sure their smiles are in excellent condition, and if their smiles are compromised in any way, it can have negative effects on the way they feel about yourself and the way they interact with the people around you. Not having a complete smile can be detrimental to your oral and bodily health, and our doctors are able to give you the comprehensive smile of your dreams by offering dental implants to their patients.

When you have teeth missing from your smile, there are many negative side effects that can take place. Some of them being a greater risk at gum disease, a misaligned bite, TMJ, and your teeth shifting in order to make up for the extra space. It is important to replace any missing teeth in your smile, and dental implants are an excellent and permanent way to accomplish that goal.

The journey to your dental implants begins with a consultation with our doctors. They will be able to assess your smile in its current condition, ask you about your future smile goals, and determine whether or not dental implants are right for you. You will also have that opportunity to ask questions or bring up any concerns you may have about the procedure. We want you to be as informed as possible throughout the entire process, making sure you feel comfortable.

If you are deemed a candidate for dental implants, a titanium screw will be embedded into your jaw bone, replacing the missing tooth root. Over time, the screw will fuse with your jaw bone, creating a strong and solid foundation. After the proper amount of healing time has passed, the abutment is added, which is essentially a support system for the implant itself as well as the crown. Last, the tooth-resembling crown is added placed, completing your new look. At the end of the procedure, you have a flawless, full smile you have always wanted! If you would like our doctors’ help restoring your smile using dental implants, contact our office today!

Achieve a Seamless Smile with Tooth-Colored Fillings

July 14, 2014

shutterstock_95473189Now that summer is here, many people are doing everything they can to make sure they look as wonderful as possible for the season. Whether it is visiting your favorite gym more often or making sure you hair and nails are done, the summer season is all about having fun and letting your hair down. There is no doubt you will be reconnecting with old friends and meeting many new people, and making an excellent first impression is important. What people may be forgetting, however, are their smiles. Many people consider a smile a first impression, and having a flawless smile is something many people want. With tooth-colored fillings, Dr. Dory Stutman and Dr. Khalida Stutman are able to give you the perfect smile you have always wanted.

One of the amazing benefits to tooth-colored fillings is the fact that they give you a natural looking smile. With amalgam fillings, or metal fillings, you are left with a mouth full of metal, making it displeasing to some. Also, there are toxins associated with metal fillings, and when it is put in your smile, those toxins are able to spread throughout your entire body, which is something no one wants. Also, with tooth-colored fillings, you are able to keep much more of your original tooth structure. When you have dental work done, such as fixing a cavity or having a root canal performed, using tooth-colored fillings allows us to retain more of your original tooth than we would using metal fillings. We will create a special composite that matches your tooth color exactly, so your smile looks seamless.

Another benefit to tooth-colored fillings is the fact that it gives you your confidence back. When you are happy and secure in your smile, that security can affect many aspects of your life, bringing out positive changes. If you would like to know how our doctors can give you an amazing smile, please contact our office, and we would love to help.

At South Shore Dental Care, we’re committed to providing our patients with a wide array of dental services, high-quality cosmetic dentistry, and up to the minute dental technology. Our Massapequa dental office serves patients from Long Island, Merrick, Bellmore, and Wantagh. Call us today to schedule your appointment.

Restore Your Smile with Dental Implants

January 8, 2014

shutterstock_100424281For many people, having concerns about their smile can prevent them from doing a lot of things. It may be the color of your teeth, the misalignment, or the obvious gaps; either way, insecurities about your smile make you cautious to make a joke, smile, or even tell someone hello. A lot of people, though, are less than confident in their smile because they have teeth missing. Though there are a couple ways to tackle the issue, dental implants  at South Shore Dental Care may be a great option!

A consultation with our doctors is the first step in dental implanting. They will be able to get a closer look at your smile, as well as speak with you about your long term goals. Once you are considered to be a candidate, the process begins. A metal implant, looking nearly identical to a screw, is rooted into your jaw bone. This screw-like metal implant will be able to give your new teeth security and immovability. Then the abutment is added, which is in essence a support system for the metal implant as well as the crown to be placed on top. After that, the tooth-resembling crown is cemented to the abutment, finishing your new look!

With a nearly perfect success rate, dental implants will give you back the sense of security may have lost. It can even improve your speech and ability to eat. Another plus point with getting dental implants is the fact they look exactly like your real teeth. Smoothly blending in with your natural teeth, implants are a sure way for you to look as natural as possible. Contact our office to see if you’re a candidate for dental implants, and be prepared to smile from all day, every day!

At South Shore Dental Care, we’re committed to providing our patients with a wide array of dental services, high-quality cosmetic dentistry, and up to the minute dental technology. Root Canals Can Save Your Teeth

December 27, 2013

shutterstock_160305989Regardless of what you may have heard, root canals get rid of your pain; they do not cause pain. An infected tooth not only causes an immense amount of pain, but can be more of an expensive investment down the road if nothing is done. At South Shore Dental Care, we want to make sure we take care of all of your dental needs, and our very experienced doctors are able help you along that journey!

Having a root canal done not only helps in getting rid of your pain, but it also benefits your teeth. A root canal is performed when there is an infected or decayed tooth, and the decomposition has to be removed before it gets any worse. The doctors commence your root canal by accessing the infected tooth, and removing the pulp. When the tooth is infected, it also infects the pulp of the tooth, causing it to exacerbate. Once the pulp of the tooth is removed, our doctors will fill the tooth with a tooth-colored filling, and top it with a crown to prevent any further corruption. In the end, you’re left feeling refreshed and in better oral health!

When you leave your teeth infected, not only can your mouth get worse, but it can affect you in other areas of your body. By delaying getting a root canal, the bacteria infecting your teeth can enter your blood stream, possibly causing destruction to the rest of your body. It’s better to take care of your oral issues sooner rather than later or it may get worse! If you’re wondering how our team can help you by performing a root canal, contact our office and make an appointment!

CEREC One-Hour Crowns at South Shore Dental Care

September 6, 2013

CEREC crownDo you have a damaged or decayed tooth that needs a crown restoration but you’ve been putting it off because of the time involved? At South Shore Dental Care we are proud to offer CEREC one-hour crowns that fit into your busy life. We’ll repair your tooth with a minimum impact to your life. In most cases it only takes an hour.

A crown is a cap that is designed to fit over a damaged or decayed tooth to help strengthen it and return function to your smiles. Traditionally, getting a crown was a fairly lengthy process that involved at least two dental visits and requiring a temporary crown while waiting for your permanent restoration to be milled. We know that our patients are busy, so we take advantage of this great CEREC technology that allows us to speed up the process.

For CEREC crowns, we take a digital impression of your tooth that’s then sent to an in-office milling unit which will craft your porcelain crown while you wait. This technology also eliminates the need for impressions, which many patients don’t enjoy. Once your CEREC crown is ready, we’ll fit it onto your tooth, leaving you with a completely restored tooth after only one dental visit. Give us a call today to learn more about this technology and see how it can help improve your smile.
