Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to Questions We Frequently Receive

When it comes to your dental health, you're in the driver's seat. The more you know, the more confident you'll feel making decisions about your care. We like to answer questions for our patients, because patients with a high dental IQ make wise oral healthcare choices. You may also want to visit our Patient Resources page for more information.

What sets your practice apart from others?

Many general dentists dabble in cosmetic and restorative procedures from time to time. Our Massapequa practice focuses almost exclusively on complex procedures such as dental implants, full-mouth rehabilitations, and custom smile makeovers. We also work with labs that specialize in cosmetic dentistry. So, patients - especially dental "orphans" who may not have seen a dentist in many years - can rest assured that their smiles are in good hands with our highly trained dentists. If you suffer with dental fear, consider sedation dentistry to give you peace of mind and body.

How do the dentists stay informed of the latest techniques?

Always on the lookout for new ways to help our patients achieve beautiful results with the least invasive procedures, Dr. Dory Stutman and Dr. Khalida Stutman accumulate hundreds of hours of continuing education courses each year. Both are members of the American Dental Association and American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Learn more about the Stutmans.

Can you show me a preview of my new smile before I commit to dental treatment?

Absolutely. With digital imaging, we can show you how your potential smile might look with the rest of your features, so you can make an informed decision about your care, without all of the guesswork. You can even take home a printout of how you'll look with your potential smile. Learn more about cosmetic dentistry, then email Our Massapequa dental office a photo of your smile, and we'll digitally enhance it to show you your real smile potential!

I get anxious even thinking about seeing a dentist. Is there anything you can do to ease my fears?

You're not alone. Many people are anxious or fearful about dental procedures. It may help to know that today's treatments are far less traumatic than what you may remember from years past. Oral and oral conscious sedation allow patients to completely relax and get the dental care they want and need. Many patients have little to no memory of their treatments following sedation dentistry. We also offer nitrous oxide, upon request.

What if I can't afford to get all of the necessary work on my teeth done at once?

Many people put off dentistry because they worry about the financial burden. We work with patients to find affordable solutions. In some cases, this means breaking treatment plans into phases so that they can work toward their new smiles a little bit at a time. If you're concerned about the expense of treatment, let's talk about how this or other arrangements might be a feasible option for you.

How can I?get a brighter, bigger, bolder smile without worrying about the tooth sensitivity that some patients experience with traditional porcelain veneers?

If your teeth are particularly sensitive, or if you're concerned about sensitivity, Dr. Stutman may recommend Invisalign clear braces or Lumineers, a no-prep or minimal-prep style of veneers. Call to schedule a consultation, and we'll discuss your options.
